    Geostrategic position of the Region as the western gateway of Greece to Adriatic and Western Europe

    The Region of Western Greece is one of the 13 Regions of the country, with an important geostrategic position, as it constitutes the gateway to and from Adriatic and Western Europe. RWG provides significant trade  opportunities and proximity to important target markets, thus facilitating the extroverted orientation of companies. At the same time, the distance between the Region’s main business center (in Patras) and  Athens is short, enabling the interconnection of the Region.

     

    Good climatic conditions

    The climate of the Region of Western Greece depends on the geographical location and the altitude. The climate of Greece is Mediterranean, with mild winters and warm summers in the low-altitude areas of RWG and cold winters and cool summers in the high-altitude areas of the Region. This combination promotes the agricultural activity of various corps, .a and at the same time, these climatic conditions provide the possibility for RWG to extent the tourist season, combining opportunities for  summer and winter tourism.

     

    Significant geomorphological diversity and rich hydrographic network

    The geomorphology of the Region of Western Greece presents an exceptional variety, combining mountains with high altitude (Erymanthos 2,222m, Panachaiko, 1,926m), large natural lakes (Trichonida 95.8 km2, which is the largest in the country, Amvrakia 14.4 km2, Lysimacheia 13 km2., Caiaphas, etc.) and rivers (Acheloos 220 km., which is the second longest river in Greece, Pinios, Alfeios, Evinos, Selinountas, Vouraikos, Piros and Glafkos) and lagoons, composing a rich hydrographic environment.

    At the same time, in RWG one could find a plethora of Special Management Zones, wetlands, national parks, NATURA areas, natural monuments, specially protected areas and aesthetic forests, that set up and promote the natural landscape.

     

    Long coastline

    In the Region of Western Greece (and mainly in the Regional Units of Achaia and Ilia) a large coastline is being developed, with waters of exceptional quality. The coastline is an important comparative advantage of the region, offering the baseline for the development of the traditional sea and sun mass-tourism  along with the attraction of domestic and foreign tourism. At the same time, the extensive and continuous coastline offers the opportunity for a tour across all Regional Units during the stay of tourists in the area.
